Why Do I Need Time Management?

Female student experiencing anxiety

When freshman start college they are:

  • confronted with new and nearly unlimited freedom.
  • likely to be overwhelmed by the number of choices and ways to spend time.
  • asked to handle adult responsibilities that someone else used to do for them.
  • exposed to negative influences like bad relationships, binge drinking, illegal drugs, and bad behavior.
  • tempted by bad behavior and academic shortcuts like skipping class, borrowing other students’ work, missing appointments or being proverbially late for everything.

If you interview some upperclassmen who have been successful academically or ask your Mentor, they will probably tell you that bad time management made their life very difficult their first year. Once they learned how to schedule realistically and accurately, college life improved and they actually had more free time.
