Accommodating Test-Takers

National testing services are required by law to provide reasonable accommodations to test takers with disabilities. You must provide documentation of your disability according to the specific standards set forth by ETS. In general, the documentation must be mailed at least six weeks prior to the registration deadline to be reviewed for approval of accommodations. You must be a self-advocate and get all documentation prepared well in advance.

Each person with a disability can be accommodated for their own specific needs. Examples of non-standard options available to persons with disabilities include:

  • extended time in one or more sections
  • extended break periods
  • non-standard colors for foreground or background

To find out more about requesting accommodations for the GRE, consult the ETS Disabilities & Testing website, which provides general information about documentation of a disability for ETS and links to information specific to various ETS tests.
