Choosing a School

Once you have decided which degree is best for you and for the profession you wish to pursue, you need to decide which school best suits you. There are two fundamental ways in deciding a graduate school to attend.

  • The first is picking a school based on your interest in a specific professor who teaches there.
    • If that is the case, you should contact them directly by writing letter, including your background, interest, and even references.
  • The second way to choose is by the reputation of the department.
    • You should apply to the schools that have the best programs that you have a chance of getting into.
    • Graduating from an esteemed program will help you get jobs.
    • To notice a good program, you should look for the presence of postdoctoral fellows and government training grants.
